2024 / 25 rent increase

All tenants will shortly be receiving letters notifying them of this year's rent increase.

Payment kiosks 

You can pay your rent at payment kiosks located at Jarrow Town Hall and South Shields Town Hall


Pay by Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the safest, easiest and most cost-effective way to pay your rent.

Your payment comes automatically from your bank account.

You can pay by Direct Debit:

  • monthly (any date of the month between the 1st and 28th)
  • weekly on a Friday
  • fortnightly on a Friday

We can set up your Direct Debit over the phone. Simply call the Income team on 0300 123 6633.

If you haven't yet set up a bank account, we can advise you on how to access a basic Bank Account.

Once you have an account you will be able to set up Direct Debit and a range of other financial services.

Online

You can pay online using a debit card.

Pay rent online


Phone

You can pay with a debit card over the phone using our 24 hour automated service.

Call 0300 456 0501 and follow the instructions.

You will need to have ready:

  • your debit card details
  • your 7-digit cashier's reference (which is located on the bottom right corner of your swipe-card)

You can also call our Housing Services Centre on 0300 123 6633 during normal office hours.


Standing order

Standing orders are simple to set up, a regular payment can be sent by your bank to your rent account.

If you want to pay this way, call the Income Team on 0300 123 6633.


Deductions from salary or superannuation

You can pay via deductions from salary or superannuation if you are an employee of South Tyneside Council, or if your pension is paid by the Council.

To request this, call us on 0300 123 6633.

You will need to provide your payroll number.


Direct from the Benefits Agency

If you receive Job Seekers' Allowance, ESA, Income Support or Pension Credits you may be able to pay your rent directly from your benefit.

For advice on this method of payment, call the Income Team on 0300 123 6633.


Swipe-cards (PayPoint)

You can use your swipe-card to pay your rent at selected retail outlets.

Currently you can pay at any location that displays the PayPoint logo. Find local PayPoints
