Overview

Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) is one of our control measures for rectifying condensation following surveys.

The ventilation is for constant run extractor fans which may be in the bathroom and / or kitchen.

These units reduce or eliminate surface condensation by replacing humid stagnant air with fresh filtered air.

The importance of good ventilation in the home

Good ventilation in your home can help to reduce and eliminate bad odours as well as moisture and dampness.

Poor or zero ventilation can cause:

  • health problems such as chromic colds, respiratory infections, development of asthma or other lung diseases
  • poor sleep quality
  • mould and mildew growth in your home
  • higher electricity bills
  • damp, musty odours in your home
  • strong cooking odours, pet odours and other smells

Your PIV system

A PIV system needs to run continuously in your home to be effective.

If you have a PIV unit, then this has commissioned based on your property's unique requirements. Any adjustment to the product could reduce its effectiveness.

If you have a PIV unit, please do not:

  • tamper with the unit
  • block the air vents in your home
  • block any chimney
  • cover any part of the unit or cover

Cost of running a PIV unit

The unit's energy efficient lo-carbon motor means a long life and low running costs.

This means that, even though it is running continuously, you will not see a large electricity bill. It can cost as little as 25p per week to run.
